CRIN is campaigning for the abolition of inhuman sentencing of children, defined to include the death penalty, corporal punishment and life imprisonment. We want to emphasise that while, for the purposes of this campaign, CRIN is calling for the abolition of the juvenile death penalty, we believe that the death penalty should be abolished for all individuals, regardless of age.

جنيف - رويترز – دعت لجنة حقوق الطفل التابعة للأمم المتحدة السعودية الجمعة، لوضع نهاية للتمييز “الشديد” ضد الفتيات ولإلغاء القوانين التي تسمح برجم وبتر أطراف وجلد وإعدام الأطفال.

وأدانت اللجنة الضربات الجوية التي ينفذها التحالف العسكري الذي تقوده السعودية في اليمن، والتي تقول إنها أسفرت عن قتل وتشويه مئات الأطفال واستخدام السعودية “لسياسة التجويع″ في الحرب ضد جماعة الحوثي المدعومة من إيران.

وفحص خبراء اللجنة المستقلون وعددهم 18 سجل المملكة، في الالتزام بمعاهدة الأمم المتحدة لحماية حقوق من تقل أعمارهم عن 18 عاماً.

This report was submitted ahead of the 73rd pre-sessional working group of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child as part of our campaign against inhuman sentencing of children - defined to include sentences of death, life imprisonment and corporal punishment.

The death penalty, life imprisonment and corporal punishment all remain lawful in Saudi Arabia for offences committed while under the age of 18. At the time of writing, three young men were at risk of imminent execution for offences they allegedly committed as children.
