The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography entered into force in 2002, and States that have ratified it have recently started to submit their initial reports to the Committee on the Rights of the Child containing comprehensive information on the measures it has taken to implement the provisions of the Protocol nationally.

تأسّست مجموعة المنظّمات غير الحكوميّة لاتّفاقيّة حقوق الطفل منذ العام 1983 أي عند البدء بكتابة مسودّة الاتّفاقيّة. وقد عُرفت بالمجموعة غير الرسميّة الخاصّة باتّفاقيّة حقوق الطفل وكانت تشارك بشكل فعّال في عمليّة كتابة المسودّة. وبعد أن دخلت الاتّفاقيّة حيّز النفاذ عام 1990، بدّلت المجموعة اسمها واعتمدت الاسم الحاليّ وهي تضمّ في الوقت الحاضر أكثر من 70 منظّمة غير حكوميّة.
