Summary: This training event will explore
practical examples of sustainable
development education, including
how voluntary organisations, local
authorities and others can work in
partnership with schools and young
people to develop understanding of
sustainable development and
support informed action.It will introduce a range of approaches and frameworks for
investigating sustainable development issues with children/young
people, and for planning and evaluating sustainable development
education. It will also consider the many opportunities for
exploring sustainable development within the National
Curriculum, and some of the challenges that may arise from such
work. In addition, the event will highlight some of the many
sources of information and resources available to support work
on sustainable development. The event will be of interest to
teachers and local authority officers, community and
environmental workers who work with schools.
By the end of the event, attendees will:
- have explored practical approaches for investigating sustainable
development with schools and young people;
- have considered the needs of schools and the links to the
school curriculum including the National Curriculum;
- have explored approaches to planning and evaluating
sustainable development education;
- have examined case studies including examples of partnerships
between schools, NGOs, government and local authorities on
sustainable development education;
- have been introduced to information and resources to support
