Summary: This issue includes a 'special insight' on child friendly budgets.
A state’s budget is a reflection of its values, and of whom it values. Budgets do have the potential to transform a country to meet the needs of its people. But how can we ensure that budgets meet the needs of children? One way is through a child rights-based approach. Save the Children met with Shameela Cassiern, Head of Children’s Budget Unit at IDASA, The Institute for Democracy in South Africa. Save has also listed seven tools that can be used to analyse whether a budget is child friendly.
