DISCRIMINATION: CRIN's submission on the draft CRPD General Comment on equality

Identifying and Preventing Abuse of Children with Mental Disabilities in Institutions

For the last year, partners have conducted human rights monitoring in 30 institutions for children with mental disabilities in four European countries, with co-funding from the European Commission.

Despite the commitment of States to deinstitutionalise people with disabilities, children continue to be placed in residential settings – placing them at increased risk of abuse and lifelong segregation.

We will share preliminary findings of this project, and consider how the CRPD can be used as a tool for preventing abuse. We will also share our monitoring methods.

Разговоры о необходимости внедрения инклюзивного образования в Азербайджане продолжаются уже достаточно давно, в стране реализуются пилотные проекты в данном направлении, однако говорить о повсеместном его внедрении пока рано.

Доказательством тому является отношение, а точнее непонимание того, насколько важно инклюзивное образование для правильного восприятия мира нашими детьми. Увы, но многие родители категоричны в данном вопросе до сих пор, не желая, чтобы их «здоровые дети учились с не совсем здоровыми сверстниками».

CRIN Submission on mental health and human rights

This submission is CRIN's contribution to an OHCHR call for input on the issue of mental health and human rights for an upcoming report in 2017. This submission highlights areas of children’s rights in relation to mental health which are not adequately covered by existing human rights mechanisms. These include issues which have specific age-related dimensions, issues that affect children uniquely because of their developmental status, and those that affect specific groups of children.
